5 Essential Oils For Winter Health

When the kids go back to school in September, we reluctantly accept that we are now headed towards the winter. Sure, it might only be the start of Autumn, but the mass gathering of children sends bugs into overdrive. First the sickness bugs, then the colds and fevers, it can be a very trying few months for parents, and sadly even if you do not have children at school, there is no escape unless you hole up at home and become a recluse. Thankfully these five essential oils are on hand to provide support to your home and environment, so be sure to have them on hand.

Peppermint Oil

Aside from being an excellent way to keep spiders out of the house when used near door frames and windows, peppermint also does more for the health than just freshen breath. Considered an immune system stimulant peppermint is a great winter illness buster. Use in a diffuser, and you will notice that your sinuses are clearer, as it can soothe sinus pressure and encourage natural drainage even with a cold. It is also perfect for combating winter tiredness and fatigue.

Lavender Oil

One of the antibacterial oils, Lavender has a vast range of healing properties and can be useful in winter. Another cold busting oil it will also ease nasal congestion and allow you to breathe more easily. Have it in the diffuser to clear the air of germs. Lavender is perfect for those of you that have trouble sleeping which will get worse if you are playing nurse to poorly children and suffering yourself. It helps the body fall asleep

Tea Tree Oil

Coming from a similar group, Tea Tree is also another cracking antibacterial essential oil that is handing to have around in the winter. You can make a tea tree spray with water and other essential oils to wipe down door handles and toilet seats to halt germs in their tracks. Keep it in the air to attack the airborne viruses before they settle in your system. Some people find that Lavender has a pungent smell and Tea Tree is a better alternative for them. Always choose an oil you like the smell of as it makes working with it so much easier.

Lemon Oil

Bright and uplifting, Lemon Oil is great for the soul as well as the body. Again you will find antibacterial properties, and Lemon Oil is another great home cleanser. The smell of lemons has been proven to lift the mood and help reduce stress levels, and it could also be a diet booster. The scent of lemons changes the chemistry in the brain and uniquely reduces the desire to reach for sweet foods. Perfect to combat winter comfort eating.

Oregano Oil

While the smell might put some people off, we cannot overlook the anti-fungal and antiviral properties of Oregano Oil. It is a great oil for fighting the flu and cold viruses that are so prevalent at this time of year, and it is the perfect oil for combating a sore throat. Combine Oregano with another oil in the diffuser and purify the air in the house.
