Summer is Coming - Essential Oils

You may have seen that we have a summer essential oil set on the website and wondered what is so special about the three oils we have chosen, Orange, Lavender and Peppermint. Well, these are really useful oils for the warmer months, so here are some benefits of each. Enjoy your summer more when you harness the power of essential oils. 

 

Orange

 

With a refreshing and uplifting aroma, orange is a lovely oil to have around. It has a smell that reminds us of hot summer days, and for that reason, it is also really uplifting. Sadly the sun cannot shine all the time, even in summer but with Orange oil, in a diffuser, you will feel like you have captured the sunlight and brought it inside. Orange oil can also be great for dealing with the houseflies that seem to love flying road the home in summer. Use diluted in a water bottle and spray around the room for a great clean smell and a decrease in winged pests. If you have toddlers and kids running around, you will know that scraped knees and elbows increase in summer when they play outside. Mix orange oil will water, and you have a great way to clean and disinfect the wound. 

 

Lavender 

 

Everyone loves a bit of lavender. In summer the nights can also get quite warm, and people fail to sleep because they are no longer comfortable. Lavender is great because it promotes sleep and helps you drift off with ease. Use in a diffuser in the bedroom for best effect, or spray onto the pillow after diluting in water to create a pillow mist. Lavender is also useful for burns, so should you forget the factor 50 and end up a little pink you probably won't be alone! To limit the damage to the skin, you can use lavender to soothe the skin, for a large area of sunburn dilute in a carrier oil and massage in.  

 

Peppermint

 

Peppermint is an excellent oil for those who suffer from allergies during the summer. Hayfever is the scourge of summer for some unlucky people, and one of the symptoms is a bunged up nose due to the sneezing and irritation from the airborne pollens. Peppermint is an excellent oil for clearing the sinuses so that it can be used as a steam inhalation. Ensure that the water is not too hot and you only require one or two drops of oil to get the desired effect. It could also be used on a tissue and held in the hand to sniff when the nose feels congested. This is also helpful for children in exam season when they have to sit and focus. Peppermint is also useful for relieving headaches which can also be more prevalent during the warmer weather. It is essential that you make sure you are drinking more water, as one of the main causes of headaches is dehydration. Apply to the temples and forehead after diluting in either water or oil to relieve the pain.
