DESCRIPTION

The Thyme plant is a perennial evergreen shrub growing up to a height of 45 cm (18 inches). It has a woody root system, a multi-branch stem, small greenish aromatic leaves, and pale purple or white flowers. Thyme comes from the Greek word ' thymos, ' simply means ' perfume. '

White Thyme can also be extracted from this species if further distilled is Red Thyme; however, White Thyme is more commonly derived from the species Thymus Zygis.

HISTORY

Thyme has been used in ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Roman herbal medicine. It was used in Greek temples as an incense and it was used in embalming by the Egyptians. It was offered to jousting Knights for bravery during the middle Ages, and a sprig of thyme was taken into the courtrooms to fend off diseases.

Thyme is a perennial shrub native to the Mediterranean Basin and parts of the Middle East — but nowadays it is also planted in Europe and parts of America.

SPIRITUAL USES

Red thyme is thought to be able to hold off nightmares, improve memory, and build a good atmosphere. Red thyme is often used to regain or bring confidence to the practitioner in charms and ceremonies, as well as in calming spells that help a person cope with practical issues.
