Stretching your comfort zones

Posted by Andrew Irvine on

So I want to achieve my dreams, but some of the parts of it are out of my comfort zoneOur self identity, who we believe ourselves to be and what we are capable of is what defines our comfort zones, and acts as a internal regulator. As we set goals and move away from our current reality, we start to experience both physical and psychological feedback and resistance. We may start to feel out of place and find the desire to get back to the comfort of our familiar reality is very strong, even if it is not what we...

The role of our attention

It helps me to picture it as if you are in a forest which has fresh grass in every direction, no untrodden paths, but as you start to readily walk in certain directions (have certain repeated thoughts) then you tread down...

Mindfulness – non judgemental awareness

Posted by Andrew Irvine on

So we have learnt that mindfulness means to live in the present moment and observe our thoughts, feelings and sensations. Sounds simple, the reality isn’t as easy but with practise it is possible. The really important concept to remember here is that we are observing our life – without criticism. So we are being compassionate with ourselves, as we observe our thoughts and feelings we realise that some will be negative and unpleasant, it is easy here to start to feel worse about this or feel ashamed. However we must remember it is perfectly normal to have these thoughts, they...
