Posted by Andrew Irvine on

Tea tree is one of the more popular household oils. Tea tree oil is an essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous scent. It comes from the leaves of the tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia, found in southeast Queensland and the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. It holds many antibacterial and antifungal benefits. Whilst also great for boosting the immune system.  It has been traditionally used to treat coughs and colds through inhalation, and applied to the skin for healing. It has been shown to kill certain bacteria, viruses, fungi and germs.

Tea Tree oil makes a great hand sanitizer or insect repellent.

To help clear coughs and colds you could use this through inhalation, by placing a few drops in a bowl of boiling water, and place a towel over your head, and breathe in the vapour.

Tea Tree can be antibiotic for minor cuts and scratches, blend about 3 drops with some water then use on the area.

Acne can also respond well to this blend, and it can also soothe skin inflammation.

You can also use it to create an all purpose cleaner for your house due to its anti bacterial properties.

However there are some cautions to consider when using tea tree oil. It must not be ingested as it may be toxic if swallowed.

Always store it out of reach of children.

Always test a couple of drops in water on your skin before using to ensure you do not have a reaction.

Enjoy using this wonderful oil, with all its beneficial properties.
