The Benefits of Essential Oils

Essential oils, derived from various parts of plants, have been shown to affect the brain, increasing brain function, have an effect on pain levels and also can bring about mood changes. Oils can be used with diffusers or oil burners or can be mixed with base oils for massage to the skin. Most oils should not be applied directly to the skin, and never ingested. Care must be taken with essential oils when pregnant, so please seek advice in this case. Essential oils can be brought in pharmacies and health food stores. 

A Clearer Brain

They have all sorts of uses; for example, there are three essential oils that are good for focus and success, use these around the home for a positive outlook and determination to obtain your goals.  

Laurel: Is good for concentration and improving the memory, especially for long tasks.  It is a great motivator if you are feeling flat. 

Peppermint: Its refreshing and pungent smell works like a power boost for a fatigued mind, making it more sharp and alert. 

Rosemary: Instills confidence during periods of self-doubt and keeps motivation levels high

Feeling Happy

Often on of the hardest things to be is positive. You have your goals, and then life gets in the way. Our other responsibilities can leave us feeling like attempts are futile and pointless. However, using aromatherapy can also help here. As usual with essential oils care must be taken if you are pregnant. 

Some of the oils that are most likely to be able to lift your mood and make you feel more positive are Orange, Lemon, Tangerine and Bergamot these are all citrus based oils that have a crisp scent. Mint family oils are also good choices, Peppermint, Spearmint or Pennyroyal for example. It is essential that you like the smell of the oil you are working with, that might sound obvious, but it makes a difference!  

Health Boosting Oils

Winter can sometimes seem to drag on forever, how many times do you or one of your family members get a cold or the sniffles. It can become really irritating. Cleaning up your diet and de-stressing will all help your immune system but did you know that using aromatherapy can also help?. As usual with essential oils care must be taken if you are pregnant. 

Some oils contain antibacterial and antiseptic properties. These can help you keep your home free from bugs and germs lessening the chance of annoying colds developing. Essential oils such as Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon, Sweet Orange and Thyme all deter the growth of viruses and make them an excellent option to use during the months when most are indoors due to less than favourable weather and windows are kept shut, limiting the amount of fresh air circulation.

Overall essential oils have a myriad of uses and can form a vital part of your daily life. Whether you are at home or work, they can offer some fantastic benefits. Please ensure you check oils for safety warnings if you have cats, dog and small children.
