This week (14.11.2022 - 20.11.2022) is Global Enterprise week! This is a week dedicated to inspiring young people to turn their dreams into reality. It was started in 2008 by the Global Entrepreneurship Network with the aim of emphasizing the positive impact that entrepreneurs have on the economy, community, country, and the world.
We thought there would be no better way to celebrate than to encourage and inspire our budding business owners who we supply to with a quick guide to setting up your very own candle making business.
So, how can we start a business out of a hobby? That’s exactly what we will be looking at and how to gain free resources. Let’s just jump straight to it and look at how easy it is to turn a creative and beneficial hobby into a small profitable business.
Step 1: The basics
This is a mixture of owning your craft and finding out who you appeal to - This is done by creating your businesses identity and finding who wants to buy your candles.

- Naming your business

Step 2: Setting up
Now you know what kind of candles you will be making, what they look like, and who you are selling them to we can now begin beginning our business to life.
- Organising suppliers - candle-making equipment/ packaging/ logistics
- Set up a workstation - somewhere to make your candles
- Set up somewhere to complete business activities (e.g. desk and chairs)
Step 3: Create a sales & marketing plan
Now you have your candle making business set up, you know who you want to sell to now it is time to create a strategy to work out how.
- Create your brand- logo/colours/themes
- Create a website
- Create social media pages
- Set up email newsletters
Step 4: Money management
You’re nearly ready to sell your candles now, just one last thing - organising finances, this is imperative as you do not want it to get confusing.
