Fresh Scents you can D.I.Y. at home

The more time you spend at home, the more likely you are to consider exciting and imaginative methods to freshen your space. One simple option is to use air fresheners, which are much easier to make at home than you may believe.

Because components can range from store-bought essential oils to flowers, fruits, and herbs from your garden or the farmers market, these projects may spark some creativity and resoucefulness. Please note: Foraging for fallen leaves, pods, and branches on a hike or a neighbourhood walk may also provide ideas. 🧐

What you will need:

Item

Purpose

Spray bottle

To hold your air freshener liquid

Masking tape or chalk markers

To label the bottle

Mood Essential Oils

To create your scent — use just one or a few in combination

Distilled water, free of minerals

To water down the essential oils (which should always be diluted in at least a 1:1 ratio)

Baking soda

To naturally absorb odour

Witch hazel/vodka

To help emulsify the oil and water

Dried herbs or flowers (optional)

To add different scents

When using baking soda, add 1 tablespoon to the bottle. Add your favourite essential oils. Shake the rest of the bottle with distilled water. For more scent, add a dried herb or flower.

When using vodka or witch hazel, mix it with equal amounts of distilled water. Shake in your favourite essential oil. For added aroma, add a dried herb or flower.

To keep your house smelling fresh, spray these air fresheners into the air, onto towels, or into bed linens. Use two or three pumps for bathrooms, automobiles, and linens. Spray 4 or 5 pumps for larger areas.
