Aromatherapy in the Workplace

So let’s talk about aromatherapy in the workplace. Of course, we know that this is typically isn’t the type of thing we talk about. The concept of aromatherapy was always that it could be used at home to try and distract from the stresses of everyday life, but in this case, we are pragmatic.

A lot of you might lead hectic lives, maybe not even have time to set aside 10 minutes every day to concentrate solely on releasing the stress and pressure from your body. So we’re going to talk about how you can introduce aromatherapy into the workplace, and seeing just whether it can be useful.

Changing the Vibe

So let’s talk a little bit about how you can use aromatherapy to change the vibe that goes on in your workplace. We all know that going to work can be a stressful experience for many. Almost as soon as you set foot in the door, you’re bombarded with problems and questions and solutions. Trying to assimilate and process all of this information can be incredibly stressful.

While we know that a lot of offices are open-plan, there is also a considerable number of people who have their desk or their room to work in, and these are the type of people that we want to connect with. They are the type of people who can benefit from having aromatherapy in their workplace because they’re allowed. A pinch of lavender, or just a hint of jasmine would be ideal for making a relaxed and calm atmosphere. It provides you with a space in the workplace which is comfortable and chilled out, and that’s fantastic.

Implementing The Change

Now that we’ve identified how useful aromatherapy can be in the workplace, let’s talk about how you go about introducing it. You can’t just start putting diffusers up willy-nilly, because this generally doesn’t tend to go down well with the rest of the office.

Instead, any changes that you do you make need to be more subtle than that. The overriding aim of aromatherapy was never to drown the room in a scent completely, but instead to subtly infuse the air with a pleasant aroma. It was never about massive gestures, instead being more about a less apparent attempt at changing the atmosphere inside your office. So what we suggest is gradually implementing different smells into your space, but always keeping the different aromas at a background level.

So, what we’ve established is that aromatherapy is one of the best ways for you to change your workplace. If you don’t have the time to spend anywhere else, then you need to play smart. If you’re someone who is going to be spending a lot of time inside your place of employment, then you’re going to wanna make it as tolerable as possible. This often involves using aromatherapy to infuse the area with a more positive vibe and turn what is typically a negative atmosphere into a more appealing one.
